Everyone shortlisted is a substantial and very important part of the local economy
It is with immense pride and honour that I have been asked to chair the Yorkshire Financial Awards 2023.
I’d like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm welcome to all of you attending the fifth annual awards ceremony.
This is an occasion for great joy and pride for everyone in the room tonight. This event provides us with an opportunity to not only share the achievements and success of Yorkshire’s outstanding financial services sector, but most importantly, for us to celebrate them together.
Each and every one of you should be extremely proud to have been shortlisted in these most prestigious awards. The financial services sector is the engine of the Yorkshire economy and you are the fuel which fires that engine. According to TheCityUK, a staggering 145,000 people are employed in financial and related professional services across the region, and generated £11.1 billion of local economic output in 2020. Well done you!
Quite clearly, the teams and individuals shortlisted are a substantial and very important part of the local economy, supporting customers and clients in all areas of their lives and businesses. You help to protect them against risk, secure their homes and business, save for the future, and provide them with the expert advice they need to make the big decisions in their lives.
The standard of the entries this year has been incredibly high, with submissions demonstrating innovation, inclusivity, staff wellbeing, your commitment to diversity and, crucially, the passion and desire you have to support your customers and clients during the challenging cost-of-living crisis.
It has been humbling reviewing the many entries and the whole process has left both myself and fellow judges inspired.
A huge thank you to everyone for taking the time to submit an entry, and to the judging panel for giving up their time to read each and every one.
I can honestly say, selecting an overall winner for each category has been one of the hardest things I have ever had to do!
Congratulations to all of this year’s entrants, the shortlisted finalists and the winners.
